The Kelly Tillage System

An innovation unique to Kelly Engineering is our disc chain mulching range of chains

Designed initially for managing residue, the disc chains are now used for everything from primary tillage to planting pastures.

The mulching disc chains are used with the primary aim of returning crop residue to the soil and preparing a better seedbed for a better bottom line. They roll down residue and chop and split it into smaller lengths allowing weathering and microbial breakdown to accelerate. The importance of an integrated approach to weed control can’t be overstated.

The chains open the way for quick, cost effective, shallow tillage to help in the battle against herbicide resistance

Both the control of existing weeds and the stimulating germination of weed seeds are tasks the Disc Chains revel in.

The nature of the shallow tillage allows mechanical cutting to control weeds, where more and more reliance on herbicides is proving a significant problem for farmers around the globe. Using a Kelly Tillage System is an excellent tool to help combat against herbicide resistance.

Seedbed Preparation

The chains perform a valuable role in preparing a seedbed in fields that have been plowed and left cloddy or rough.

Many operations now use the Kelly Tillage System for all their seeding preparation, some even for seeding. The combination of chain tension, weight, layout and disc chain shape is used to advantage in designing disc chains to suit different soil types and applications.

Costs Benefits

The disc chains are made from a variety of abrasion resistant metals, they are designed to last and last.

Kelly Tillage Systems are renowned for excellent cost of operation, using only a fraction of the horsepower required for other traditional methods, to achieve the same results. Faster working speeds and wider machines can allow the farmer to reap the benefits, saving them time and money.

Farmers are able to capitalize on the versatility of the Kelly Tillage System’s, by using a combination of disc chains to prep, mulch, incorporate, stimulate, propagate and exterminate throughout the year.

It's all about the discs

CL2 – Cast Link Cutting Disc Chain

A concave replaceable disc mounted in a heavy cast steel boss with a hook and eye to link together.

The sharp disc chain provides penetration into the toughest of soils while the weight and shape of the boss keep the disc chain cutting and control the working depth. Heavy residue management and reliable weed control makes this new disc chain our flagship product.

Weight 75lb/ft - 112kg/m, Spacing 8”.

CL1 Cutting Disc Chain

The most versatile of the Kelly Disc Chains.

The CL1 is a concave disc chain made from hardwearing cast steel alloy with a hook and eye for linking together. The ideal tool for residue management, weed control, leveling soil and while working at just the right depth creates the perfect seedbed. Can be used in combination with other disc chains to give the best fit for your conditions.

Weight 47lb/ft - 70kg/m, Spacing 7”.

W36 – Welded Disc Chain 36mm

Our standard, tried and tested work horse.

A lightly curved disc chain made from wear resistant steel welded to a heavy chain that is ideal for mulching residue and levelling soil.

Weight 36lb/ft - 55kg/m, spacing 7”.

Spike Disc Chain

10 spikes per disc chain and 5 inch spacings give this heavy duty spiked disc chain real effectiveness.

At 49lb/ft - 75kg/m the close spaced spikes can be fitted either trailing or leading. In the trailing direction the levelling and incorporating action combine to provide a shallow running, self cleaning seedbed preparation tool.

Remarkably effective at removing weeds this makes an ideal pre or post seeding tool for herbicide incorporation. In the more aggressive “leading” orientation, the Spiked Disc Chain works as a “first pass” light tillage tool, levelling and preparing a seedbed.
